FAQ

Where should a first-time buyer in Kitchener-Waterloo start?

Start with the first-time buyer guide. It covers minimum down payments, the five programs worth stacking (the FHSA, the Home Buyers' Plan, the first-time buyer tax credit, the Ontario land transfer tax refund and the new-home HST rebates) and closing costs. Then use the neighbourhood guides to decide where to look.

Which city should I buy in: Kitchener, Waterloo or Cambridge?

Waterloo is the most expensive of the three and home to the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier. Kitchener and Cambridge trade places as the cheaper city from month to month, and Cambridge is the closest to the GTA. The comparison guide puts prices, tax rates, schools and commutes side by side.

Who writes these guides?

Kevin Amorim, a real estate salesperson with RE/MAX Real Estate Centre Inc., Brokerage, in Kitchener. He has lived in Waterloo Region for 30 years and breaks down its neighbourhoods on his YouTube channel. Each guide is dated and uses 2026 figures.
